Who Is Mission Church?

Part 1

Who is Mission Church?

  • We are an elder-driven church

  • We are predominately a verse-by-verse teaching church

  • We believe the Bible to be God’s Holy word and it is to be obeyed, not just acknowledged

  • We are a reformed church

  • We believe Jesus is the only way to be forgiven of sin and to be saved from the wrath of eternal punishment, Hell.

  • We believe in lifestyle DISCIPLESHIP and COMMUNITY

DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS –

  • As disciples of Jesus, it is our responsibility to make other disciples of Jesus.

  • This is NOT optional.

  • This is where the “teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you” happens

  • This is where confession happens.

  • This is where repentance happens.

  • This is where growth happens.

  • & lemme just say…

  • Some of y’all have been in the SAME dg with the SAME people for a long time.

  • & I would bet that you’re pretty much the SAME person…

  • NOT a lot of growth.

  • Some of y’all are Partners, & you’ve NEVER lead a Discipleship Group

  • What you’re doing is easy for you.

  • It’s what you know.

  • It’s comfortable.

  • But you’re missing out on so much of the blessing that comes with discipling others.

  • So…let’s do something new!

  • Let’s get just a lil bit uncomfortable.

  • Let’s grow this year.

  • Talk to Pastor Daniel about it & he will help get you started.

COMMUNITY GROUPS –

  • These are where we gather…we eat…we share life together

  • We need community

  • We need to be around other people that might be a lil different from us

  • Single people with married people

  • Young marrieds sharing life with families with older kids

  • Big kids playing with lil kids

  • It’s messy & beautiful!

  • This is a great thing!

  • We cannot obey half of the New Testament commands unless we’re in community

  • And right now, we NEED more people to open up their homes for Community Groups

  • You don’t have to be a Partner…

  • You don’t have to be able to lead a Bible Study…

  • You don’t have to be able to play guitar & lead worship songs…

  • All you need is a space…

  • And the willingness to use the time & the home that you’ve been given to create an environment where people can share life together.

  • If you think you might be interested in hosting a COMMUNITY GROUP…

  • Or if you have any other questions, just reach out to Pastor Daniel and he would be ecstatic to help in any way that he can.

  • He’s hosted a LOT of community groups!

Matthew 28:16-20

The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.
  • Judas has committed suicide

  • Christ has risen and has been seen by hundreds

1st Corinthians 15:4-6a

that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. 6a Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time;

  • This Matthew 28 passage is spoken to the 11 remaining disciples 14+- days before Christ’s ascension found in Acts 1:6-11

  • We are called to follow Christ; what we see next should convince you that the disciples

17 When they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted.
  • Who saw him?

  • The 11, minus Judas

  • Peter, James, John, all of them!

  • And…the doubted

  • What did they doubt?

  • In the past 3 weeks, they had seen Jesus crucified, come back to life, several miracles, and…they still doubted

  • You. And I. Will have doubt.

Proverbs 3:5-10

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. 8 This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; 10 then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.

HERE IS THE PUNCH:

  1. Trust the Lord

  2. Don’t trust your own understanding

  3. Recognize Christ’s supremacy in all things

  4. Understand your wisdom falls WAY short of God’s wisdom

  5. Fear God and His power

  6. Run away from evil things

  7. Honor God with all that you have

  8. Tithe

18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

HERE IS THE HUG:

  1. Jesus has all the authority

  2. Jesus has saved you

  3. Jesus is with you
