Romans 15:1-4 | Part 1

Proverbs 24:3-4 | By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Isaiah 32:18 | My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
  • Wisdom, understanding, knowledge, pleasant things

  • Peaceful, a place to stay not leave, security, quiet, restful

Romans 15:1 | Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves.
  • Strength, being strong

  • You are obligated based on what has been given you

  • How do you know you are strong?

  • How do you know you are weak?

Isaiah 40:31 | But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
  • Are you waiting on the Lord?

  • When we wait…when we REST (house of Shalom), we are renewed in strength.

  • Rest in Christ gives us perspective (1,000-foot view)

  • Weariness comes from expended efforts in the wrong direction

  • We move in the direction of Christ’s calling, not our instinct

Romans 15:2 | Each one of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
  • Their good, not our good

Galatians 6:10 | So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
  • Your focus, my focus is on others. Not ourselves

  • This starts with your family

  • And is extended to your neighbors. Your work

Romans 15:3 | For even Christ did not please himself. On the contrary, as it is written, The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
  • Ever been called names?

  • Have you ever been made fun of?

  • Jesus gets you

  • He feels insulted when you are

Isaiah 41:10 | Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Home matters

Some people have no home

The churches responsibility is to provide a spiritual home

Our King, Jesus, focused on others. We are called to be like Jesus
