IDENTITY IN CHRIST | DAY 11
Leviticus 20:26
You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be mine.
I belong to God
Two positive characteristics that great dads share stand out to me. 1) They are great role models. They don’t ask their kids to do anything they don’t do themselves. As a child, I couldn’t stand the statement made by authorities, “Don’t do what I do, do what I say!” Kids will respond out of fear, but later they will rebel out of a lack of loving leadership. 2) They aren’t possessive in their parenting, but highly protective of their children. Possessive Dads demand blind loyalty. Protective Dads ask for obedience that serves the child's best interest.
In this passage, God is saying to you and me, his adopted forever kids, I want you to be holy, and I will lead you in holiness. I will not ask you to do anything I’m not doing! He is also saying I am your Dad and I want what’s best for you! I want you to enjoy life to the fullest, but you are going to
need to obey me. You are my child and I love you!
Now that’s a great dad :)
