IDENTITY IN CHRIST | DAY 8
John 1:10-13
He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, 13 who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.
I am adopted as his child
Adoption. Such a beautiful thing!! A family makes a decision to accept a child into their lives forever. Wow!! The theology of adoption is just as cool. What we learn from this passage today is that Jesus understands adopted kids. He experienced a LOT of what they have gone through. Check it out:
Jesus is creator
Jesus has entered as one of us (human)
The world, which He created didn’t know who He was. HE WASN’T VALUED.
His own people were not interested in him
The creator of the universe who came to seek and save lost people like you and me was REJECTED by the people He came to save! Jesus gets you. He understands how rejection feels. He understands what it's like to love someone and not be loved back. And yet, through His blood sacrifice, He makes the way available that you and I can be ADOPTED. Into His family forever! So what did we do to get this great gift? Nothing. Look at verses 12 and 13 again. Just believe. Believe in Jesus. Believe that Jesus loves you. Believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Your adoption into God’s family is not because of where you come from, not because you DECIDED God was giving you a good deal, your adoption is because of God’s will for you. He loves you. He’s decided to make you His own.
