IDENTITY IN CHRIST | DAY 4
John 8:34-36
Jesus responded, “Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son(or daughter) does remain forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.
I am no longer a slave to sin
Right before these verses Jesus was being questioned by some religious leaders. They were self-righteous in their own eyes. They had not, in their opinion done bad things like adultery, committed murder, or stolen therefore they were ok. In fact, at the beginning of this chapter, they bring a woman who had been caught in adultery before Jesus. They condemned her. In these verses, Jesus INCLUDES the Pharisees with the woman!! Verse 34 says this: Anyone who commits a sin is a slave of sin. This means it owns you, it controls you, and eventually… it will kill you. That’s not good news.
Jesus says in verse 35, A slave does not remain. He meant that slaves die, or are sold. They aren’t counted as heirs. BUT!! Sons and daughters, that’s a different situation. Being a child of the King is a forever ADOPTION. One which can never be revoked. So… if Jesus saves you? You are forever His.
